One can sell you your own soul, the other can show you that you have one, well done. And a nice one at that. I.e. one takes away, and one gives.
Looking for advertising jobs online. Varying degrees of success with this (endless) task.
I would like to make one thing explicitly clear. I am NOT looking for a career in Sales. The purpose of sales is to acquire money. (Out of people who do not want to part with it). The purpose of advertising is to acquire customers. (I.e. make friends with the population of the world, and hope one day they use your product/service etc).
Very different.
VERY different, indeed!
I am in the industry of communication. Talking to people. I love to talk! The delights, innovations, designs, buzz and excitement are what motivate me. Sales has none of these aspects. Sales is for down-right (even employers on job websites state this openly) money-hungry corporate sluts. (Okay, I paraphrased bit). I am not money driven. I am people oriented. I do not find cold-calling a skill, an expertise or a worthy job description. I am not studying a Bachelors Degree to start cold-calling. I am not in £20,000+ debt to begin my career cold-calling.
ALL I want is for an option in these job search boxes to exclude the word 'Sales'. Loads of search engines are able to have a Search / Advanced Search option. Why don't these job sites have an Advanced Search option with the ability to include or exclude certain phrases?
It's hard enough as it is trying to describe what I study, what I want to be and then relate this to a potential job. I have studied aspects of Advertising, Marketing, Consumer Behaviour, P.R, Media, Business Management, Project Management, Media Planning, Budgeting and Finance, Copywriting etc. What does this make me? It makes me frustrated that I do not have ONE future job title.
I'll make things easier for myself. Facts:
1. I love Advertising - it's spicy, unique, fun, challenging, naughty, silly, serious and rewarding.
2. I am creative, but not dependent on such skills or abilities. They're a bonus.
3. I love to give presentations (portfolio, powerpoint or otherwise).
4. I can use a telephone, but prefer the conversations to start with "Hello again old friend!" as opposed to "Hi there, I have no soul, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in..."
5. I work with people. I like people. I bounce off people. I help people. I really like helping people.
6. I am not able to commit my life to something that doesn't actually like me.
7. I am not, and do not ever want to be a cold-caller.
Fin.
